- via nytimes: you may think dubai is an odd place — an ostentatious and architecturally spectacular member of the united arab emirates that has teetered on the brink of a real estate collapse. so perhaps a change in perspective is in order — from outer space. here’s the dubai coast, seen from the international space station. at left are the man-made palm jumeirah islands. at right is a development of 300 private man-made islands shaped like a global map. (angelina jolie and brad pitt were said, at one point, to be thinking about buying a faux ethiopia.) like dubai, the project may not be thriving. nasa could see little infrastructure.
