Yessss… M.Arch I classmate, Cortez Crosby, nails it when asked about what the Yale Building Project tries to do and what we all accomplished this summer! Note about the other speaker, Paul Brouard… 82 years old, arrived before us at 6am every day, worked just as hard and long, took on hard tasks on his own, and never once showed signs of slowing down… an amazing man and inspiration to us all. My favorite memories this summer were teaming up with him on tasks, (ie air ducts and floor trim) and constantly laughing. Adore his spirit.
Yale Vlock Open House Party…

Last night was the opening of the Vlock House. This is the design-build project that the first year M.Arch l students last year built. The class is divided up into small groups, and compete for a winning design in which the rest of the class has to produce construction documents in the spring semester. Then, over the summer, the entire class builds it together! How awesome is that!!?!

The welcoming speech by Dean Stern, was pretty entertaining, as always… “What makes this house different from past Vlock houses is that it was based off of four corners - it’s essentially a cube. Some professors, even in this institution, think it’s okay to design like this… but… you know… I like my buildings to have a little ornament from time to time.” I can’t imagine how uncomfortable he was, standing there.. with all those right-angles… all that white… all that linearity… all that transparency!!!
